It is an honour to welcome you to the 6th SEA-DR 2018 International Conference. The conference will be held on June 27-28, 2018, in Banda Aceh, Aceh Province, Indonesia. This conference is hosted by South East Asia Design Research (SEA-DR) forum and Magister of Mathematics Education of Syiah Kuala University (recognisably abbreviated as UNSYIAH), the largest and the oldest national university in Aceh. This event on 2018 is co. organized by Syiah Kuala University, Utrecht University, Sriwijaya University, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Universitas Negeri Padang, Lambung Mangkurat University, and Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (MERGA). The SEA-DR conference is an annual international conference carried out regularly by SEA-DR forum since 2013.

The 6th SEA-DR 2018 will provide an excellent opportunity for academics, teachers, students, educators, researchers and education stakeholders to share knowledge and research findings as well as to promote the best practice of Design research. Topics of interests cover all theoretical and practical aspects of Design research in the field of teaching mathematics, science, and technology.

The advancement of today’s mathematics, science and technology results in unavoidable global vchallenges for everyone. Students are required to be equipped with the 21 century skills to meet the challenges and play their role as an active citizen in their own country and international citizen in the so called ‘borderless world’. Such skills include critical thinking, creative thinking, communication skill, and collaboration skill. Education system should thrive to assist students to excel in the 21 century skills through the innovation in teaching and learning of mathematics science and technology. The teaching and learning processes should enable students to engage in various subjects and be inspired to further and advance learning in many areas across disciplines.

This issue demands more effort in research and publications especially Designal research in various fields including mathematics, science and technology. Therefore, South East Asia Design Research (SEA-DR) as a forum of communication design Designal research in collaboration with the Department of Magister of Mathematics Education FKIP Syiah Kuala University addressing this issue by organizing the sixth international conference with the major theme “Inspiring students to learn: Fostering Innovative teaching and learning of science, mathematics and technology”.
